Long awaited and highly anticipated, Sam Smith’s album “The Thrill of it All” was released November 3. Smith’s sophomore album features 14 songs and is his first big release since 2014.

The first song I heard from the album was “Too Good at Goodbyes,” and is probably the most popular song off the new album. This song was released prior to the release of the full album, and quickly gained popularity, exciting fans for the full release. The song is one of my favorites from the album because the lyrics are really simple and beautiful.

Something I really like about the album as a whole is how cohesive it is. Though each song has its own message and sound, the album seems to flow, and each song has a similar mood and tone. I’d describe the tone of the album as almost reminiscent, and the album as a whole feels very refreshing as the lyrics portray a new start. I like the album because it feels very unique to music that is popular now. I think that Smith’s voice and music style is very different and refreshing, and at times has an almost jazzy feel.

Smith has one collaboration on the album, with singer YEBBA. The song is called “No Peace” and probably my favorite song on the album. The song is about a toxic relationship, and the feelings of attachment and resentment in such a relationship. Smith’s and YEBBA’s voices are very similar and compliment each other beautifully.

Overall, I would 10/10 recommend this album to people who either love Sam Smith or have never heard of him. His voice is incredible and his style of music is really unique. If you haven’t listened to “The Thrill of it All”, go do so right now.
