As a spinoff to The Lego Movie released in 2014, The Lego Batman Movie, directed by Chris McKay brings in audiences of all ages. Bringing back the ‘The Caped Crusader’ in lego form interested many older adults, while kids who love legos enjoyed watching a film made by the grossing toy company. Well-known actors including: Will Arnett (The Lego Movie, Hot Rod), Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Juno), Rosario Dawson (Daredevil, Men in Black 2), and Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List, Harry Potter), helped to elevate the film with their unique voices.

Receiving a 91% from Rotten Tomatoes (film review) raised up the feature even more, and sources say that more people saw this film than it’s opening weekend opponent: Fifty Shades Darker. BBC and The Huffington Post (and various other sources)  state that “The Batman” toppled the sequel leading with $55.6m to $46.8m.

Not only is the film well voiced with the rights to use almost about any character Lego wants, but there is a blend of CG animation along with actual Lego sets. The process, stated by Time Magazine, starts with storyboard, layout, animation, then lighting to polish up the scenes.

A lot happens in this film, with jokes for kids along with some political banter. Familiar faces like Superman (Channing Tatum) and the Joker (Zach Galifianakis) appear, along with a few references to the many Batman’s played throughout the year including 1966’s Batman television series lead by Adam West to 2005-2012’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, directed by Christopher Nolan and lead by Christian Bale.
With numerous intense movies released in February, The Lego Batman Movie gives something clean and fun for those of any age. Lego and Batman fans alike get to see the two join together. This fun film brings back the youth of those who were obsessed with either.
