The air smells thick with concession food and is full of pep songs played by the band on stage. As fans fill the stands, excited chatter and laughter build.

The evening’s festivities began by the boys basketball C team scrimmaging.

“It was good to have that practice of a real game before into the season because we just prepared more,” junior Kyle Sykes said.

The scrimmage was followed with an introduction of the girls varsity basketball team. Following that, both the boys varsity basketball team and JV basketball team were introduced. Then came the main event: a scrimmage between teams, which were each a mix of boys varsity and JV players.

The cheerleaders cheered during this scrimmage.

“It was really fun because it was one of first times cheering and everyone got to see our uniforms in full,” said junior Annelise Madderom.

At halftime, fans flocked to the table of food outside the gym doors to get hot dogs, brownies, and more.

The kickoff got basketball fans pumped for the season.

“I feel like there’s so much energy in the room. The music’s pumping!” sophomore Day Newman said.
