This year saw the return of a movie franchise that was long awaited. Before I actually saw “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”, I was really excited knowing how funny the first one was. But after getting a chance to see the movie I was sad to say it did not quite live up to its hype.

Even though it was recently released on DVD with some extra scenes, I don’t think I will be picking it up any time soon.

Unfortunately, “Anchorman 2” was too similar to the first movie. Imagine that the writers sat down with a notepad, watched “Anchorman,” wrote down the jokes, and then simply changed the wording a bit and threw them in the sequel.

One of the most loved characters of the first movie and biggest problems in the second movie was Brick Tamland. In the first movie, Brick was a simple-minded idiot who was good for some quick laughs. But in “Anchorman 2” he was different. The writers obviously noticed the attention he received in the last movie and tried hard to get the character his own small story and more screen time. The writers really tried too hard with his character, dumbing him down until every scene has a line from Brick that feels like he’s trying to sound dumb. What the writers should have done if they wanted more screen time for him is write him a small supporting role like that of the rest of Ron Burgundy’s entourage.

Overall, the movie was worth the $4 I spent on the ticket. But if I had known what it was like, I could have easily waited for the DVD. To sum up my feelings about this film, I would say that it’s satisfying, not at all in the comical sense, but in a sense that it ended the “Anchorman” franchise. Or so I hope it did.
