KCC Baseball vs Word of Life Academy

The KCC Baseball team huddles up before starting their game.

Baseball season is here and the KCC boys are going in with high hopes.

“I hope that our team can get on the field and execute in batting and fielding,” freshman Andrew Sotelo said. “I also hope we grow as a team.”

Every day, the team begins practice by warming up, usually playing catch to get their arms loose. They then move to the batting cages to work on their offensive skills and set different scenarios in the field to improve their defense.

The boys run different plays in order to best prepare themselves for the games. Practices are run with high energy and kept as game-like as possible.

“[My goals are] to get better and have a lot of fun,” junior Derrick Cook said.

The first game of the season was a doubleheader on March 28, against Word of Life Academy. The first game was a little rough,as the team began the game by giving up some runs. By the second game, the team made some changes and improved their game.

Every year, the baseball team looks forward to playing a game at Kauffman Stadium, a tradition that started a few years ago. This year, the event will take place on April 21 against Heritage Christian.

“I’m looking forward to the game at Kauffman,” senior Colson Bayles said. “It’s a thrill playing on the field my favorite team plays on.”
