If everyone could just calm down, that would be great.

I’m not kidding. It seems as though everyone is always freaking out or stressed about something and that causes everyone else to be stressed. I’m not saying that you should be nonchalant about every little thing in life and be as free as the wind, but calm down a bit. The world isn’t ending.

In Matthew 6: 25-26, Jesus tells the people to whom he is speaking, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

If God cares about the birds and provides for them their daily needs, why should we worry about ours? I know it’s human nature to worry, and we have all done it at some point. I used to worry about every little thing. By that I mean I would have a complete freak out if I left homework at school or lost something I needed.

I realized at the beginning of the school year that it just isn’t fun to freak out like that. If I leave homework at school, the only option is to get to school early and there is no point in getting upset about it that afternoon. If I lose something, I just look for it and will most likely will be sarcastic while I do so. Once, when I couldn’t find my car keys while trying to leave I kept saying “Houston, we have a problem” while I searched the house.

Worry and getting worked up about things but it isn’t good for you. You don’t feel good; you are always anxious about everything that you do. Once you realize how nice things are if you slow down and just take a deep breath, you’ll never want to go back. I have moments when I get stressed out about something, usually due to my own procrastination, and I remind myself to take a deep breath.

Worry is a habit and it is a bad one. You have to put forth effort and make a point to not have a meltdown or get stressed. Eventually you break your bad habit and create a new one. You won’t be perfect and never get upset, we are humans after all, but just try and remember that the world isn’t ending. If it were, there would be bigger issues than forgetting to do the backside of a worksheet.
