The 2013 Christmas concert “From Darkness into Light” was a combined performance of the high school and middle school bands and choirs. The concert took place on Dec. 9 in the school auditorium.

Sophomore Rose Campbell, a soloist featured in the concert, said that “all went very well” and that she was glad to have seen so many people in attendance.

The concert expressed the theme of darkness into light through music that wasn’t necessarily Christian but illustrated the theme of darkness and light beginning with the “Cave 1,” a song by Mumford and Sons, sung by the 79th Street Singers and ending with “The Herald Angel Swing” performed by the jazz band.

Music teacher Brad Light said these songs helped illustrate the how Jesus moved humanity from darkness to light. With humanity locked in darkness, Christ came to save humanity by shining his light into the darkness and moving the church away from salvation through rituals.

“[The concert was] a really cool different way to look at Christmas but very effective,” sophomore Mia Smith said.
